I just found out that Alan Wake's difficulty modes aren't the same on PC and 360. The 360's original normal and hard mode were renamed easy and normal mode for PC, making the default more difficult. Nightmare Mode seems to be the same on both systems. American Nightmare only offers Nightmare Mode on PC though, leaving only two difficulty settings (the other being normal), whereas the 360 doesn't offer any difficulty selection.

Editing … best way to play is nightmare mode + HUD off (which also happens to be a PC-only option). and to think this game was supposed to be an xbox exclusive.

Remedy, if the axe throwing enemies were an attempt at having an enemy in the conversation for most annoying gaming enemies ever you have succeeded.

Just finished chapter 1, it's very interesting so far. It just makes me more confused about the hate Quantum Break got. If you liked Alan Wake play Quantum Break it's style and presentation is very similar to Alan Wake. Remedy games just have a unique feel to them and they're quickly becoming one of my favorite devs.

Editing … Pro tip, you don't have to fight every Taken you see. You can aim your flashlight at them to make them recoil, and use that opportunity to run. Saves batteries and bullets, and might earn you some achievements as well. If you use the flashlight well, you'll feel great!

Replaying this for the first time in ages. Finished episode one, shit just as good as I remember. Should of put it on nightmare though, definitely the best way to experience the game imo.

Editing … When I replayed, it was on nightmare with the HUD disabled. You should try that latter function, it's nice :)

Good game, but the story is a mess and it's a little bit heavy on the combat side. I've got to a point where, instead of being scared of the monsters, I was being annoyed by them. Combat every single minute. That's definitely the worst part of the game. On the good side, the setting is amazing (countryside) and the support characters are cool (I love you Barry). Now I have to decided between playing the 2 DLC or going straight to the sequel. If only the DLCs were less action oriented.

Editing … The DLCS are definitely worth your time, whereas the sequel suffers from content recycling and poor pacing since it forces you to replay the same three levels over and over again.

Editing … The first DLC is... awful. I can't take it anymore. I walk to steps, 10 bad guys surround me. I run or kill them, then more 10 bad guys, then 20 bad guys, then cars and things flying. I keep dying. Too stressful.

Editing … Combat every minute? Man, I could make it through entire episodes without even killing ten enemies. I just replayed on nightmare difficulty and died about four times. Git gud (glad you enjoyed it <3 )

Following my plan to play all of my Steam backlog in alphabetical order, the next one is #Alan Wake. Pretty cool so far. Definitely gonna finish it. Starts as a Silent Hill clone and suddenly becomes a TV show. But Alan Wake (the character) is a douche. I hope he dies in the end.

Alan Wake is a rather competent, if largely by the numbers, shooter. However, it wants to be something more. It wants to be a smart story-driven psychological horror experience – but it fails miserably. The writing is so bad that it makes you dread the moment when it will waltz again into the spotlight. You can't help but think who wrote this crap? Then you notice it's the same guy who wrote the original Max Payne. How...?
Pros: Gorgeous outdoor environments, excellent lightning, the use of light is incorporated well into gunplay, good gunplay, gameplay tries to mix things up, great sound effects and music, solid level design
Cons: Idiotic-beyond-belief decision to spoil all major (plot) moments in a written form 10-15 minutes before they actually happen, ridiculously self-indulgent writing, shockingly poor story and voice acting, moronic characters, poor atmosphere, stiff body and face animations, predictable gameplay and story, underused and repeated secret messages, often illogical

Editing … I have played it! I quite liked it. I can see why most people didn't like it, since it only has 3 maps, but I still thought it was very, very fun. :)

A very underrated game, and definitely a must-have for Xbox360 owners. While it's not as scary as older survival horrors, I still recommend it to fans of the genre. It has a unique atmosphere (American thriller int the Rocky Mountains type), the story is enjoyable, some very memorable set pieces. The gameplay is simple and works perfectly. It's also one of the best looking Xbox360 games (except for the outdated facial animations). You can see the passion the developers put into creating this game on every step as you play it, it feels "handcrafted" all the way through.

Pretty cool game with a refreshing way of telling its story, although the ending is not that great. The atmosphere is awesome, and it is somewhat scary if you're into that (which I'm not). The game-play felt new and interesting at first, but it gets repetitive by the end. Overall a very cool game, one of the better 360 exclusives, but I'll be damned if I walk through another lumber mill.
