While its not yet finished, I can safely say that Hilary Mantel's trilogy about Thomas Cromwell, which Wolf Hall is the first volume of is one of the best book-series I've read in recent memory. Mantel paints a very nuanced and sympathetic portrait of a man who has often been seen as a villain and her depiction of life during the Tudor-era is very vivid.
There's also a mini-series made based on the first two books, starring Mark Rylance as Cromwell and I recommend it strongly.
