Dragon Warrior was one of the first role playing games that got me hooked on the genre. Despite being a distinct grind and having a rather generic story, the game truly rewarded those who stuck with it while introducing many, including myself, to RPG concepts that would be enhanced by its predecessors. While I agree that Dragon Warrior isn't a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, it surely influenced my love for the genre and interactive entertainment as a whole.
