Perhaps being late to the series is a good approach, because it seems to make Raiden far, far more likable. Dare I say it, I much prefer him to Snake in MGS2 because his movements are quicker and looser, making stealth, retreat, and combat less aggravating. I generally hated the gameplay at first, but have come to enjoy it more with every playthrough. Just not my favorite controls/feel compared to other MGS titles, but of course that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. Every core entry in the series has its own reasons to potentially be called the best, and MGS2 is no exception.
