I woke up from a dream where the first Mario adaptation was Polish, and starred Jacek Chmielnik as Mario (I see him a lot in Polish movies, and I recently watched Vabank). I mostly just remember the ending, where Mario had to solve a problem with some pipes by playing some sort of arcade game, which allegedly incorporated aspects of Super Mario Bros. and Pac-Man, but I don't really recall anything Mario-related other than the green pipes, which acted as walls for a Pac-Man character to move around, leaving a glowing blue trail behind him. The goal was for the player's character to cover the entire level, while avoiding pursuers and picking up every pellet, which would sometimes spawn behind the player, in the trail they left. Each level took just a few seconds to complete, then smoothly transitioned into the next, and required quick wits to find the optimal path through, as anything else would result in the player getting caught. At the very last level though, there was a part of the level that couldn't be reached, making the game impossible to complete. Mario discussed this with, um, I'm not really sure who, but I feel like they were called "the royal delegation."

I remember after the movie ended, there was a tease for a sequel, a la Machete Kills Again... in Space. It opened with "Coming in 1965," which I thought was weird, because that was almost 20 years after this first movie, and by the time they'd actually shoot it, the actors would be a lot older than in the teaser. I had the hindsight of watching in the 2020s though, and knew the sequel was never actually produced. There was also the inconsistency that earlier in the dream, the Mario movie had been released in either the '70s or '80s (though the Super Mario Bros. video game didn't actually release in real life until 1985). The teaser showed Mario on a pirate ship, led by two women pirates.

I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't faithful at all, but it was my favorite Mario adaptation.
