I was shooting a movie in my dream last night. At the end of the first day, I realized none of my footage would come out well, since I was shooting on 16mm and hadn't light metered even once. I also figured the production ought to be shot digitally, as a Red camera package would cost less than buying, processing and scanning film. I was also shooting on a Bolex without a crystal sync motor, meaning I wouldn't get sync-sound picture, and the camera's too loud to record on-set audio anyway, unless the camera's far from the action. The performances also could have been better. The actors were amateurs, and needed to get used to their roles. In a parking lot after our shoot, we decided we'd treat the day as a rehearsal, and re-shoot the scenes later.

However, someone was impressed by our shoot (I think someone who saw us in the parking lot), and the dream skipped forward. We had financing, a producer on set, and we were able to continue shooting on 16mm, using an Arriflex 16SR for sync-sound, as well as a reflex Bolex w/ sidefinder, with a crystal sync motor and magazine, for shots that were tricky to get with the SR16's weight and size (I can barely shoot that thing handheld). The movie was an intimate indie drama and a musical, with six musical numbers, and it looked fantastic. I remember being surprised at how little stress I felt, just euphoria that everything was going so well.
