Oh, I remember now I've watched some of it, season 3 is a bunch of short stories rather than a season of one investigation. It seems they dropped the cheesy overdramatic stuff and it's a bit better that way. Jack the Ripper and the Krays were such big stories these just don't have that instant attention grab though.
