This was a legendary rap album all about the times when everyone just rapped and hit the turntables for fun. All of the songs in Main Source's debut were about kids in the hood keepin' it real and never letting money get in the way of anything.

In spite of this, the only reason the group of two DJs and one MC broke up was because one of the DJ's moms handled who got paid. For whatever reason, the rapper Large Professor got a raw deal out of all of it. Maybe K. Cut's mom thought that Canadians were cooler. She was like, Yankees are wack.

But hey, Main Source actually reunited for a performance in 2020. I mean, I didn't expect that, but it was cool. Hopefully Nasty Nas came too. I mean, this album cameo did mark his official debut...

Main Source's debut--still the most underrated hip-hop album of all time. It features rap frontman /future rap DJ producer mastermind Large Professor at his prime, and two top-notch DJs from Toronto. The group had a falling out because of logistics (they lived in two different countries), but both groups made a huge impact on the development of rap in Canada and New York. The collective's sound was instrumental in developing the hard-hitting bass sound in rap music, complete with killer scratches and tons of samples.

The most famous track is "Live at the Barbecue," their all-star collaboration with "Nasty" Nas, the guru who transformed hip-hop with one album--Illmatic. The remaster also includes their iconic hit single "Fakin' the Funk" in the movie White Men Can't Jump. The whole album was literally ahead of its time.
