Yes, it has some questionable messaging regarding people "belonging to each other" and treating a middle-aged man marrying a 14 year girl as acceptable, to say nothing of Rooney's yellowface. It's far from a perfect film, but still dammed if it isn't charming because Audrey Hepburn can sell ANYTHING. The expected knockout performance from her, in a decidedly different type of role from what I've seen in Roman Holiday and How to Steal a Million, but still altogether HER. George Peppard and Patricia Neal also help round out this mostly good cast with great performances. Aside from that the film is genuinely laugh-out-loud funny at a number of points. Special note to the entire "out on the town" sequence from Tiffany's to the library to being very conspicuous shoplifters at the toy store. The film also has some real heart as you really see how these two characters grow closer together over time; a magic pixie dream girl basically done right (it helps that Peppard's character is so eager to go along for the ride and isn't without a hint of mischief of his own). The final scene in the rain had me in tears; that poor cat! At least everything turned out alright in the end. A solid Hollywood film from one of the greatest actresses ever.

Editing … See below on the page for Egg's old review as well, which does a very good job of elaborating on the characters and the tone of the work.

Perhaps my favorite movie I've seen in quite a long time, though I'm not completely sure why, and I'm scared I won't still love it once I watch it again. But, the acting and directing seemed very good, and the visuals were rich and bright. I found a lot to love about Audrey's character, Holly Golightly. At first she seems as quirky and capably ditsy as a classy female Jack Sparrow, yet then you realize there's a somewhat sad and broken person underneath. I found her character complex and believable, and everyone else was likable too, even the Asian stereotype. Plus it just has that classic feel, and a homely tone despite a big city setting. I couldn't always understand what people were saying, and next time I might watch it with subtitles, since I was a little confused sometimes. I didn't feel into it in the same manner I've felt into most movies I've really liked lately, yet I feel like this movie has had a great effect on me.

Now I'm also starting to hear a lot of the mom from The Aristocats.

I've heard Rarity is largely inspired by Audrey Hepburn. Five minutes in I can already see it. The voice, the word choice. She even sleeps with a facial mask and has a cat.

Asian stereotype's a bit weird to see. Did we really used to think they all had buck teeth?
