    "A Ton of Games"

    Visual Novel #2/100

    #Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa was one of those games I had heard people rave about, but was still unsure if I would like it. About 10 minutes after meeting the game's cast, there was no longer any doubt, I was going to love this game! The game has just the right amount of sillyness and wacky character moments to keep it funny without going into Disgaea levels of cringe. Similar to the #Zero Escape games, this series focuses on a group of people trapped in a #Saw-like scenario that sees them forced to kill one another in order to survive. Due to the nature of this scenario, characters can and will die, A LOT. This makes the, admittedly basic, social minigame all the more effective. Nothing worse than spending time getting to know more about a character just to have them die in the next chapter :P Be careful who you get attached to! The main chunk of gameplay however emerges during the "Class trials", and these sections are also quite fun and I've been told take inspiration from the #Ace Attorney series. The true selling point of the game is definitely the story. It's engaging, funny and above all interesting. I've always loved murder-mysteries and clue-solving plots in general. A fantastic game and with such colourful characters, you are bound to find at least a couple that you will become enamoured with :) Definitely recommended to all!

    "A Ton of Games!"

    Visual Novel #1/100

    #Katawa Shoujo

Katawa Shoujo was the first Visual Novel game I ever played, or at least the first substantial one. Back in 2012, I was pretty big into Youtube and in particular, I liked to watch a lot of game collectors/hobbyists. One such Youtuber I was subscribed to was called Shintai. Around that time there was a Dating Sim/Visual Novel that was picking up steam due to it's "controversial" theme. Anyway, Shintai decided to review the Demo version of the game as well as interview a few of the people involved in making the game. Piquing my interest, I decided to try it out.

Katawa Shoujo is a fantastically written game that pulls you in with it's strong character development. The characters feel real and the game makes you care about them and their plights. Although there are several paths through the game based on each of the 5 main female leads, I have actually only played the #Emi Ibarazaki route. Once you are locked in to a path, the game becomes incredibly linear, but anyone familair with visual novels should be used to this. This game remnded me of the power of writing and the effect that words can have. Having been an avid reader as a child, I was always a fan of strong character-driven narratives. After completing the game, I was left quite emotional. It had been a long time since a game had affected me in such a manner and so I began to seek out similar experiences. Thus began my interest in the Visual Novel genre!

I would highly recommend this game to anyone interested in the genre, or anyone who enjoys reading. Just be aware that there is some Mature Content in this game, but it never seems forced or distasteful, at least in my opinion.

    7.5/10

Well, I said I was gonna go full on into the Visual Novel genre this year, and it's already May, so now seems as good a time as any to make good on my promise :P Steam was having an anime sale, so I picked up a couple. http://store.steampowered.com/sale/anime_sale/

#Clannad seemed to be one of the most recommended. Anybody on here played/read it? I hear it's meant to pack a pretty emotional punch. Looking forward to reading through this one. I'm due a good cry :')

Editing … Mainly the touch control. I don't like the idea of having to switch back and forth between the stylus and the face buttons. Also my general hatred of touch screens in general :P The lack of a second analog really bugs the crap out of me as well. It's the same complaint I always had with the PSP. The shape is a big issue too. I just do not find it comfortable. I rarely play for more than a couple of hours before it gets too bothersome and I put it aside. I think I've played the 3DS the least out of every system I have ever owned.
