Possibly the only game to ever cause more extra-game injuries than were depicted by the actual game. (ie "Oh you like playing as Pikachu do ya? Well maybe hooking your nipples up to a car battery will change your mind!"

Super Smash Bros. is one of the Best Fighting Games of all Time. Even it's now old. It's still plays well even Today!

This was the very first fighter I ever played. I went to a shitty summer program that branched off a shitty after-school program in which the only thing you could do was play on the N64 they had. SSB was always in the console. Whenever I got to play, I would always choose Pikachu, cause you know, I'M COOL LIKE THAT. I would walk off the edge as soon as I started playing because I was only six years old. But then after playing it years later, I realized how great of a game this really was. While there weren't that many characters, stages or unlockables, and Cpt. Falcon was the cheapest mofo in the game, SSB was still loads of fun, and it deserves to be recognized as a catalyst for greatness.

The great thing about Nintendo during the N64 days was they were redefining how to bring their legacy franchises in polygons while still finding time to do new inventive stuff like this. Sure it's fluff, but a Nintendo fighting game? Never thought it would happen before Smash. Like Super Mario Kart a generation back, the original still remains the one I had the most fun with here too. Sure Melee and Brawl may have expanded and refined the concepts, but nothing beats the novelty of the original in my eyes.

Played this after its sequels, and I must say I don't think it measures up. I just look for mindless fun in this game, but other than the Donkey Kong carry a character off the stage murder-suicide move there's just not enough for my tastes. The controls don't feel as precise either. I'm sure it was great for its time though.

Super Smash Bros 64 gets everything right. Almost any character can do well against another character as long as you have the skill. Every stage has something special about them without being too gimmicky. The items aren't too overpowered and the poke balls in this game are arguably the best in the series. What makes Super Smash bros 64 better than the other two Smash games is that it doesn't require specific special moves like wavedashing or drillshining that can be used on any character to be competitive (like in Melee) but rather encourages you to change your big combo depending on the stage you are on and what character you are facing, and unlike Brawl it can actually be competitive. Definitely get this if you have an N64.
