I wish each stage had its own music. One reason I like the game less the farther in I go is that I'll hear music in a later stage and I feel like it only belongs in the stage it was originally in, like I identify it with that level.

Dr Eggnog nodley played dirty with that Crash Bandicoot card. Growing up, I liked shitty 3D platformers like Jersey Devil and A Bugs Life way better than Crash Bandicoot. I also liked the supposedly abysmal Twisted Metal III, which everyone seemed to hate because the courses were small and the cars occasionally flipped on their back, nevermind how much better the graphics and controls were than Twisted Metal II or that II's courses were not noticeably bigger imo. Silent Hill, Spider-Man, Final Fantasy VII, and Resident Evil were also some of my first games. I barely ever got past the first room of Metal Gear Solid lol. Fucking stealth. My sister had an NES as well as a ps1 and I liked it though not as much because the games were hard to get very far in and the graphics were 2D. But I liked Super Mario Bros and a couple other games okay.

Galaxy had some great orchestrated songs, but 64 takes the cake for diverse themes that manage to excite new players and veterans alike. The basic title, opening, and castle music set the tune of an adventure unfolding quite nicely. Bob-Omb Battlefield, the Slides, Dire Dire Docks, and Snow Mountain all have great soundtracks to emphasize their challenges and motifs. Bowser's stage and fight themes are some of the most intense Nintendo has ever done, and "Bowser's Road" sounding like a military marching song on the mostly linear path to the Koopa King is genius.

Super Mario 64 DS is a great port of one of the best 3D platformers. The graphics hold up when looked at on the portable screens. Collecting the stars is just some of the most fun to be had in gaming, with all manner of interesting challenges being required to get them, and the level design is fantastic. It can also feel pretty amazing using the controls well.

Score: 8.5 (Great!)

Super Mario 64 is a masterpiece. It created a new genre when it was released and changed gaming history. Though it is over fifteen years old now, Super Mario 64 remains the best platformer of all time.

Do you know those games that are just perfect? Every level is fun and well designed? And every minute you play you're just enjoying it? It doesn't matter when you play it or how old you are. Super Mario 64 is the perfect example how games should be. Just fun. Enjoy!

I don't see why so many critics criticized the controls. I find it very easy to navigate the characters using the D-pad. If you don't want to use the D-pad, you can also use the stylus. I prefer the DS controls over the slippery N64-controls. This game features updated graphics, 4 characters with unique skills and additional courses and levels. When you need a break from the adventure mode, you can play many different mini-games which have been implemented very well. This is the only remake I like better than the original game. Nintendo put a lot of effort into this. They even implemented a multi-player mode (though it isn't that good, but they at least tried it). This is a very fun and challenging 3D Mario platform game!

Score: 9.5 (Fantastic!)
