Super Mario 3D LandVideo Game (3D Platformer)

Why can I basically breeze through 3D land and 3D world, yet get my ass kicked even in the early stages of the new super Mario bros games?

Gries He So far I've collected 149 special coins and accumulated 127 lives. Currently I'm replaying all levels where I haven't reached the top of the flag yet and or am stilling missing some special golden coins.

Gries He 189 coins, 129 lives, 153 retries, just unlocked special stage 7 out of 8. Total play time so far: 10:28 hours

It has it's moments, but overall lacks the inventiveness of the Galaxy games. Much of the game is too easy, and even when it gets harder the imprecise slide pad sucks a lot of the enjoyment.

Score: 7.0 (Good!)

It's no Mario Galaxy, but Super Mario 3D Land is still really creative, well designed, and most of all, a blast to play.

Score: 8.5 (Great!)

Nikk Eridia It was fun for me too but super short. I just wish there was more substance!

I beat the main game some days ago but that is just the beginning. As Bass260 wrote before me, the true game starts after you beat it for the first time. It just gets better and better! Really hope 3D World has a similar type of progression.

Ever wondered what a 2D Mario would be like in 3D? Well here it is. Nintendo proves time and time again they're the leaders of game design and this game certainly does not disappoint. It was the first 3DS game to truly wow me and exemplify how the unique 3D effect can really enhance a game. The game's rather short but it's packed with a ton of bonus content - the true game doesn't start until the special worlds.

Score: 9.0 (Fantastic!)

Yes, the first quest is easy. Yes, the Tanooki Suit is perhaps a little overused. And yes, it isn't the most innovative Mario game of all time either. But you know what? Super Mario 3D Land, despite the aforementioned criticisms, is still an absolute classic and the first must-own for the 3DS. If I had to point out the true spiritual successor to Mario 64, I'd say this game is for sure the most like my all-time favorite game. The gameplay is perfect, the 3D is well-utilized, and the visuals are excellent. Level design is some of the best I've seen in a long time and the music perfectly compliments the vibe. The fact that this game was made specifically to cheer up the people of Japan after the earthquake speaks volumes about its quality.

Score: 9.5 (Fantastic!)
