I will never admit to believing that there is such a condition as "Video Game Addiction," but if I did go to an AA-esque meeting and introduce myself with a resounding "Hi, Smash," I'd say that my first injection was Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. While my first exposure was the rescue team of the blue variety, when I got my hands on the GBA counterpart, there was no going back. For whatever reason, the fast-paced literal dungeon crawling struck a chord with my free time. I have invested almost 100 hours into this deep, fulfilling tribute to an RPG hallmark and I don't regret it. While not a critical darling, it's a blast to play and I recommend it to anyone who believes that Pokémon can't branch out of its conventions.

I think Blue and Red should be separated entries, since the games are fairly different, having in mind one is for the DS and the other for the GBA

Editing … Outside the slightly different control scheme, there isn't much that is different, other than exclusive Pokemon.

This was my introduction to roguelikes, and it's still my favorite. There's enough of a story to be interesting without overwhelming the gameplay (unlike its sequel), and the dungeon crawling is addicting and has just the right level of challenge.
