I still wish I owned the copy of Odelay with Diskobox. This would've been the best damned bonus track for an album, but most of the unlucky owners received the wacky "Computer Rock" with the repeating beeps and boops. I'm not too mad, though. I mean, at least we have audio evidence of this collab track with the dude from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on YouTube...

    "Diskobox, (so) action!
Got to (let forget) with the jazz effect!

    YOOOOOOW!"

Beck made his big break on Odelay because he learned to have a lot more fun with his music style. With the help of Dust Brothers, he made rap rock a lot more funky and goofy than ever before. Sure, there are weird samples everywhere, but that builds the value of this masterpiece. The entire album is literally a ride through the most kitschy side of alternative rock, so tracks such as "High 5 (Rock the Catskills)" never received the airplay that they deserved. Beck would perform more mature albums, but come on, "Odelay" is just where it's at.

This album could almost be perfect. Nothing as unique as Beck had ever been seen before and has yet to be seen again. If you were to isolate 70% of the tracks, you'd hear nothing but disturbing sounds. But, every song on this album takes all these ugly sound effects or whatever they are and transforms them to an incredible folky hip-hop alternative masterpiece. Every song on this is brilliantly composed and produced to make one of the most "out there" records of all time. Too bad it steps just over the line at some places. Like at the end of the song "Novacane", there's an ear piercing screeching noise that goes on for almost the same time as the actual song. You just want to turn that shit off, ask the person who put it on what the hell is wrong with them and tell them to get the other record. If it weren't for these unnecessary moments of the album, this would be my favorite album by a landslide. Beck has proven himself to be the most creative artist of the generation.
