I got to this game late (2013?), but still found it very impressive, and unlike anything I had played before. For gamers that say that last gen didn't create anything "new", I now point them in this game's direction.

“The open world thing was something we really wanted to do, one of the early things we kind of dreamed about doing. But it became obvious early on that it just - as far as getting it on the consoles was concerned - wasn’t going to be possible”

Editing … To put it into context: More copies of Mirror's Edge were sold on Steam than of Saint’s Row 4, COD Black Ops 2, Bioshock 2, Arkham Asylum, GTA San Andreas, Dishonored, Dead Space, Dark Souls, Witcher 1, Limbo, Kotor, Alan Wake, Max Payne 3, Fallout 3 Goty, Oblivion, Civilization 4, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Deus Ex 3 ...and a bunch of other obviously inferior games.

Editing … So Mirror's Edge sold best on PC then? That makes no sense to me, I think it's a lot better with console controls.

Editing … Got it last week for £1.50. It does look rather lovely, much better than i remember at 1080p 60fps and obviously works with a 360 pad so PC is the best version available. Although i guess it sold than many because it's often the same price as a pack of wine gums

Those fucking idiots of http://www.classicsgames.de/ actually advertise the retail PC copy of Mirror's Edge (2008) with promo material of Mirror's Edge (2016)! This is an outrage. Should I sue?!

Was für ein scheiß Spiel ist das denn?!

The core idea of "parkour" – freedom, playfulness, exploration, thinking outside the box, *maybe* rebellion against "pedestrian rules" – is mutilated by chopper gunfire, annoying mandatory enemies and constantly being chased in general. For these reasons, the game encourages building up & maintaining momentum – but then searching secretly hidden bags (collectibles) makes no sense. It absolutely contradicts the running theme.

Controls were awefully stupid and unintuitive (hitting is on the *lower* shoulder button?), but not sure whether to blame the game design or the Xbox port. Also, first-person melee combat is never a good idea as you get disoriented way too fast.

The overall visuals are pretty, in a way … I'll give you that. Though some indoor sections may give you eye cancer. And cutscenes are crappily animated.

Definitely not worth its launch price.

Editing … Alright, I'll bite. wall of text incoming: „annoying mandatory enemies“ -> that’s a lie. That’s a god damn lie. You can complete the game without ever killing/shooting at a single enemy. In fact, I have done just that several times. || “... is mutilated by constantly being chased” -> ME is a racing game at heart, what did you expect ?! || “searching hidden bags makes no sense” -> the bags used to have a much bigger role in the game; runners are paid to take these bags that contain secret messages from one part of the town to the other, so they make perfect sense in the in-game world. || “controls were unintuitve” -> it’d be way too easy and boring/repetitive if you could make Faith jump simply by pressing the ‘A’ button || “hitting is on the *lower* shoulder button” -> well of course punching is done by pressing the right trigger; just like shooting in a FPS is done by pressing the right trigger. || “first person melee is never a good idea” -> that’s the only thing that didn’t feel right in ME, I’ll give you that. But you just need to watch the E3 2013/4 trailers to see that DICE has absolutely fixed and improved that shortcoming in the second game. || “the overall visuals are pretty” -> hell yeah they are || “some indoor sections may give you eye cancer” -> pretty much every reviewer applauded ME’s art direction. It’s a matter of taste really (you’re still wrong. oh so wrong.) || “cutscenes are crappily animated” -> this seems to be a common complaint. It didn’t bother me really, although it’s obvious that DICE wanted to save time/money by including these “crappily animated” cutscenes.

Editing … Or! You could have just let me have my opinion. I don't like a game that you like. Is that really so unbearable for you? — I never said that you have to *kill* the mandatory enemies but you have to *confront* them. If you don't punch them k.o. they'll shoot you down while you climb the only-slowly-climbable obstacles. — No, shooting in FPSs is done with the right *upper* shoulder button.

Mirror’s Edge Felt Real, And That’s What Made It So Special

„I could write about Mirror’s Edge all day. About how much I love it, how important it’s been to this generation of gaming. I could talk about its visual design, which remains as fresh and iconic today as it did back in 2008. I could talk about Magnus ‘Solar Fields” Birgersson’s wonderful score.

“The rooftop chase sequences are (...) maybe my favorite moments of gaming in years, because they take what other games use as tedious roadblocks to level progression and by making them feel real transform them into anxious, death-defying stunts.
