What an amazing 2D platformer that rejuvenated the series and it was a next-gen Mega Man. The adrenaline of this game always gets my blood to pump and the reflexes required to platform are just exquisite. Great game.

When the SNES dropped, franchises that had matured into mainstream popularity needed to innovate to move forward and become kings amongst men. Mega Man X was Capcom's attempt of breathing new life into the series, and they succeeded indefinitely. While the core design remained the same, upgrades were introduced, giving X more health, armor, or special abilities. While the NES Mega Man's were pretty straightforward, X kept you coming back to seek out more hidden upgrades. With an outstanding soundtrack, awesome weapons, and one of the greatest secrets in video games, Mega Man X is one not to "X" out on your list.

This side universe proved that the Mega Man story could evolve into a narrative more epic than ever before. Despite a few brutal bosses, this is a fantastic platformer that pushed the capabilities of the Super Nintendo to the edge.

The game that rightfully took Mega Man into the next generation... over 15 years ago. Still, expanded upon the original MM series concept with bigger baddies, more power-ups and a kickass soundtrack. You can't go wrong by taking a great formula and making it even better.

A solid action game, one of the best for the SNES, but after all the hype it receives I was a bit disappointed. I don't think it innovates the formula enough and the sequel had a better flow to its levels (it also had the courtesy of giving you the dash right away instead of making you always begin with a specific stage). The buildup to the finale is the best of the trilogy, as is the music, but the finale itself is just tedious. Lastly, I much prefer the more minimalistic visual style of the NES series to this somewhat bloated, more is more approach, but this is a minor gripe.

Probably the best game in the Mega Man franchise. Everything from the level design to the music to the visuals is polished to near perfection.

Simply put, Mega Man X is one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played. Each stage is unique, designed to make full use of the dash and wall jump abilities that X possesses, and the simple jump and shoot formula is broken up with mech and cart sections that are well integrated into the level design. Each boss fight is memorable and although most of them are difficult I never found any of them frustrating enough to give up. There's a great variety in the selection of weapons, but at the same time it's probably the most balanced selection in any Mega Man game. To conclude, the game keeps what was so fun about the Mega Man series but builds on it to make a truly exceptional game.
