This is the first game I think of when I think of a polished game. Kyle finds Persona 4 super polished, and while I love that game more I don't. For him polish is more about the gameplay and for me it's more about the feeling the game gives off. DQVIII feels polished to me partly because it's so old fashioned and tried and true.

So it looks like DQ8 is finally getting the remake attention it deserves. I always thought it was a disgrace how FFX, FFX-2, and the KH series all got HD remakes for home consoles, with DQ8, the much more popular game in Japan by a landslide, getting a mere smartphone port... in portrait mode. What is it with Japan's obsession with portrait mode? Portrait mode is for shit idle games like Game of War, not proper console RPGs.

Anyway, the game won't be for home consoles but for 3DS, which, honestly, I prefer anyway (though a Vita version would've been even better...) Like the original Western release, the game will now have voice work recorded for it (or maybe they're just shipping it with the English voices only -- not entirely unprecedented), and the soundtrack will be replaced with symphonic soundtrack from the English release rather than the original midi soundtrack.

As for new content that will actually be relevant if it ever gets a Western release... Morrie from the Monster Arena will now be playable, as well as a female thief named Garda. There will also be a new story scenario.

Anyway, I'm very excited for this. Despite the fact that I consider it my 2nd favorite game of all time, I've only played through it once, and I've been looking for excuses to play through it again. I've actually been sitting on a Japanese copy for several years now, which I intended to play so I could have the "genuine" DQ experience with the midi soundtrack and the original white-on-black text-based menu system, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I mean, it's a long game... A really long game. At 70 hours, it is by far the longest game I ever played, so it's quite daunting to pick it up back up again.

But I'll definitely pick this up the moment it gets released in Japan this August. Here's hoping it actually makes Westward, though, unlike... well, the other 4 DQ games currently on 3DS.

Editing … Probably be one of those New Nintendo 3DS things like Xenoblade. I can't imagine DQVIII running on a regular 3DS.

Editing … Nope, it's for all 3DSes. Honestly, Xenoblade could've run on a regular 3DS as well, they just chose not to.

Editing … Wow, and I was shocked when I saw Donkey Kong Country Returns running beautifully on my 3DS. It's a powerful little system.

The first Dragon Quest game I ever played. This game had a good storyline with amusing characters and some pretty good music. The graphics are from the same person,Toriyama Akira, who did the artwork for the Dragon Ball Z series. Overall a great game that true JRPG fans will enjoy.

The Japanese version of this game did not have voice acting or orchestrated music. I'm impressed with the changes they made. This game deserves just as much attention as Final Fantasy X got.

Plays game with menu-driven combat. Thinks it's kinda lame. Calls it one of his favorites anyway.

Dragon Quest VIII is a high quality and polished rpg. The world is massive and very impressive in third person. The cel chaded graphics are charming and look very nice and consistent. The music is orchestrated and very lovely, with some of rpg's best town themes, and a battle theme that doesn't get old. The battle system is extremely well balanced. The story is simple but the scenes are still lovable.

Really nice RPG. The story is a little too slow and more mundane than I would like, but the big world to explore, classic DQ gameplay, and lovely cel-shaded graphics make this a memorable game. Not to mention it has some of the best localization efforts ever, adding some very good voice acting (Yangus is the man!).
