The "Crime and Punishment" of video games. Braid is an achievement in the advancement of downloadable games. For its time, no XBLA game came close to the depth and polish that Jonathan Blow crafted into the gameplay. The use of rewinding time, shadow physics and slow motion allowed for plenty of extremely challenging puzzles. While some puzzles felt tighter than others, the graphics and sound gave the game an art house feel and the references to Super Mario Bros. are a nice touch. But it's the story that Braid will be remembered for. It's one of the best in the industry because of its coating in symbolism. Everything that is explained means much more than originally conceived. Braid is one of the defining examples of video game art.

Braid uses abstract poetry and surreal time warping to create a unique world like no other. The main character, Tim, seems like he is searching for a damsel in distress. On the contrary, every part of the story is not as it first appears. The puzzles take intense amounts of time to figure out, but the final ending is well worth the effort. Although some people may hate the ending, it really is a marvelous statement about creating a better future. Braid is a masterpiece.

I talked about the potential of artistic integrity of video games. Well, god damn, if your talking artsy, your talking Braid. It might not be my favorite, but I could easily say that Braid is the best puzzle game ever made. The puzzles are some of the most challenging in any game I've ever played and the satisfaction of finally getting that puzzle piece is orgasmic. Every factor of this game, game play wise, is genius. The story is glorious, along side a story twist that could make you start to think deeply about very hard questions. If I had one complaint, it was that reading the story through a block of text when you enter rooms could be boring. But, this doesn't take away from any of the games perfected game play and beautiful style.

A collection of clever puzzles. The visual is outstanding, but the soundtrack is somehow annoying. Whatever, this game is fantastic and the "time mechanics" are really impressive. I love when developers use casual things to create great games like this. And the 'Super Mario Bros'. inspiration is awesome.

Innovative gameplay, great artwork, and a powerful message - this is definitely one of the greatest indie games of all time. I do however find it aggravating that the level design is based far too heavily on the collectibles, with relatively no challenge to actually complete the levels.
