Although this show was a 10/10 for me, it's not the best for rewatching, because a lot of it is information, and surprises during matches, both of which I know about going in for rewatching. It can still be enjoyable, but I don't think it'll ever wow me a second time.

Watched the theme again and it took me back in a big way. God I wish I could watch this series for the first time again.

Yus! Baby Steps started off slow, but improved more and more. I liked the visuals and music, but the strength is in the characters, focus, consistency, pacing, diligence, writing, and realism. Maruo Eiichiro is my favorite character because his never give up attitude doesn't get boring and the way he applies his OCD bookworm mentality to an athletic sport is beyond fascinating. The supporting cast is good, with a cute and likable girl, and a varied series of opponents with different backstories and play styles. The show is excellent at playing with expectations, setting up one thing and doing another, and having victories and losses happen in unexpected ways. The comedy is nice, but my biggest laughs came from non-joke moments that were surprising and awesome. There's hardly any melodrama or unnecessary cuteness. The show takes healthy breaks for bits of likable romance or comedy, but the focus is on tennis, which I didn't care about before this show. Execution = everything.
