I played this game with a friend today. This game is really horrible. The gameplay is almost exactly the same as in Mario Power Tennis except that they made it worse with all kinds of weird shots. The roster of characters is extremely miserable (no Koopa Troopa, no Birdo? wth??). The music gets annoying after a while and - of course - there is no way to disable it like in the predecessors. Online play can get laggy. The graphics are alright I guess but I somehow expected more. The mushroom court is absolute cancer to the eyes; the colors are WAY to bright and those white spots with no texture on it certainly don't help. They re-used the same announcer samples from Mario Power Tennis because they were too lazy to hire a new voice actor. The funny thing is that this time, the announcer doesn't say the character's name (only server and receiver). You know why? Because they were too lazy to record new voices for the new characters who didn't appear in Mario Power Tennis. The game modes are trash except normal exhibition matches. You can't play with friends online; you can only play against random people. The developers reused old-ass artworks. I almost fell asleep during the game so I asked my friend to play a nice round of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS instead. Truly horrible and lazy as hell. The potential was there but the strict deadline killed this game.
