After a mysterious yet simple story has been set up, "Outland" bestows one of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous level designs upon you. The background imagery, realized with highly detailed silhouettes, honestly looks amazing. It is a metroidvania 2D platformer in its gameplay and you simply cannot avoid mentioning "Ikaruga" when describing the core mechanic: you are given powers and you're confronted with obstacles, both based on light and dark energy that you can switch between at will. The difficulty is adequate and the collectibles make you come back, although just 1o pieces of artwork were a bit of a let-down. There's not much replayability, but the game is still highly recommendable.
