In SimCity you take the role of a mayor who wants to build his own city from the ground up. While staying within your bugdet, along with the necessary means of transportation you can build several kinds of buildings, starting with power plants, residential, commercial and industrial blocks, and later also police stations, sports stadiums, etc. - without any specific goal to the game. It was one of the first truly well-designed simulation games so that - due to its addictive nature - it quickly became one of the finest video games has to offer. This earned the game designer Will Wright a place among the most notable persons in the industry, allowing him to expand on the concept and create an even more popular series: The Sims.
