Very good film! Was a bit skeptical at first, but the movie surprised me.

The important thing to understand about The Revenant is that this is mainly a technical achievement. The movie is beautifully shot, considering no kind of lighting was used other than natural light, and it takes no easy way out when it comes to the crafting. The actors are actually working in those conditions, that's what helps their performances be so legitimate and believable. Dicaprio was absolutely amazing, and deserved that Oscar.

As for the story, it's a decent one. It's really nothing all that special, the characters are not that developed or identifiable, but it's still well told. I thought it could've been paced a little bit better, the movie dragged a bit in the second half. It's still very engaging all throughout, thanks to the craft and the performances.
