Went back to the first twenty minutes of this, and it made me feel the same way I did last time I watched it all the way through. Snoopy Come Home feels like it's only for kids, and usually when I say that it means there's something wrong with the movie, like it's gross or full of bad CG or extremely lazy/boring. But I don't mean it in a bad way here. It feels like a good thing that's only for kids. It's something about the pacing or tone. I'm having trouble pinning it down. It's the way it takes everything slow and doesn't give some scenes much point beyond nice or visually interesting stuff happening. It's the way that it's never explained what the girl in the hospital is sick with or how she gets better. It's the way so much focus is paid to the animation timing well with the music. It's the way eight minutes of Snoopy getting tormented by an awful girl is just a thing that happens on his journey and could've been left out. It's that scene with Linus and Snoopy fighting, which I find a bit violent and disturbing now but wasn't bothered by at all as a kid. The movie feels made to jive with the way that kids brains work. It's actually pretty interesting. I wish that movies made only for kids were more like this and less like Son of the Mask or the live action Cat in the Hat.
