Mega Man deserves a spot on my list, as I've played every MM game countless times to death, but MM3 reigns supreme. The MM games had some of the most expressive 8-bit sprites out there, a variety of stages, excellent soundtracks and cool powerups that no other game series has attempted to match. Why MM3? Because it had the best of all worlds in the series, plus the added length of battling the MM2 bosses again in all new stages.
