Heroes of Might and Magic III was released in 1999 and it was years before it's time, and yet ever so timeless. The gameplay is as good as turn based strategy can be, the art is incredibly beautiful even sixteen years later. The music is as close to perfect as a game will ever have. The little writing it has is witty, and at times surprisingly touching. But it's not all these objective things that make me love Heroes of Might and Magic III so much. Perhaps the best thing, and for sure the thing that has made me play the game for so many hours is it's replayability, which is literally endless. The random map generator is so well made that you can just generate new maps and experience a game you've never experienced.

It might be partly nostalgia based, but it's still one of the mechanically most stellar games in the history of anything.
