A tremendous performance by Daniel Day-Lewis :) After a rather strange choice of opening scene Spoiler Almost 15 minutes of silent-movie like scenes this movie grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. Daniel Day-Lewis (and by extension, his character) is so dominating on screen that no-one else really matches up to him, save for Paul Dano. This is a deliberate choice I am sure, and one that makes perfect sense once you see the movie. The musical score is nothing short of spectacular. It does much more than set the mood, it serves as an insight into the mind of the main character, an extension of the man himself. I got chills watching this, and some of those close-up shots are remarkable in their composition. If I could sum this movie up in one word, it would be 'Melancholy'.
