It'd be nice if we could get some actual books on the list and not just graphic novels and the like. :D My two recommendations for 2014: Half a King and Cibola Burn. Half a King is by the same author that did the excellent First Law trilogy, but is a much easier read. Reads like a young adult novel rather than the hard fantasy he's known for, very easy to pick up if you don't read a lot. Cibola Burn is the third book of The Expanse series, which is getting the Game of Thrones treatment with each book being turned into a ten-episode season in a new television series on SyFy. Start with the show (debuting in two weeks; first episode available online now) or the first book (Leviathan Wakes). =)
