I can hardly express how delighted I am with how this series turned out. With something like a dozen superhero shows on TV, I'm thrilled that one of them has truly hooked me, with a well rounded female lead to boot! I can still recall Birds of Prey as an example of how a show like this can go catastrophically wrong.

While I thought Daredevil was a cut above other attempts at comics-to-television, JJ has managed to outshine it. Most notably I think the characters in JJ are consistently excellent, while those of DD had a few misses among the hits. Their backstories are extremely well fleshed out and interesting. I've seen a number of TV shows lately that make consistent use of flashback and I generally take it as an opportunity to check my email, but JJ remarkably managed to keep me glued to the screen. And it simply can't be ignored what a refreshingly terrific villain Kilgrave is. Sadistic, charismatic, pitiful, yet all around likable, Tennant's act is going to be tough to follow.

Editing … I should mention it's not perfect. The one area Daredevil towers over JJ is the action sequences that feel rather clumsy and amateurish here. Fortunately the conflicts in JJ revolve more around sleuthing and scheming in sequences that can match any fistfight in terms of excitement. The story also starts to meander, repeat and pad itself out in the last couple episodes. The pacing might have been tighter with a slightly shorter season. But overall these issues are a drop in a bucket of quality entertainment.
