I'm embarrassed to say I used to find this show funny... until I saw the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKS3MGriZcs There is very little in this show that is actually funny, but the show tries to camouflage this fact with a laugh track. Not only that, but it perpetuates "nerd/geek" stereotypes, constantly ridiculing them and laughing at their expense. For example, the whole reason people think the end of the episode where Amy fakes her own sickness and ends up asking for a spanking is funny is because "nerds" are believed to be inherently awkward and asexual.

Editing … That's not really fair to take one scene from the entire series and do that though. You could do that with a lot of TV comedy's and get the same result. I like the show but i don't think it's insanely funny like other people do.

Editing … That's why it's an /example/. There are plenty of other problematic portrayals of "nerds" in the show.

Editing … ALL OF MY YES. God, we have the exact same opinion about this dreadful show! Nobody seems to notice that the producers of this unfunny pos try to trick the viewer into believing that what it is happening on screen is actually entertaining by playing a laugh track every few seconds. I watched about 5 episodes and haven't laughed once although I tried to give TBBT a fair chance to convince me that there is actually merit to its success, but nope. It doesn't help that every "actor" in this show is grotesquely overacting, either.
