Alan is no longer a douchebag. American Nightmare is a different take on the Alan Wake formula. Gameplay-wise, it's shorter, easier and better. Alan now can run, shoot and jump, things he struggled to do before. I guess it comes with experience. AN also comes with a villain and while he's just a doppelganger, I like him because [1] he's sexy (every woman in the game can agree with me on this one) and [2] he reminds me of someone I was once in love with. And even though replaying the same levels over and over again is not the most exciting thing, I guess it's justified in this case.
