If you want to create a simple Super Mario level, Mario Maker is the way to go. No tool allows such easy and intuitive level creation other than Mario Maker. Such easy level creation comes with a catch: many elements are missing. You can't choose between multiple backgrounds and songs. There's no color palette to allow differently-colored tiles and enemies. There's no checkpoints or slopes or other things which should be a given. The online interface lacks features. 95% of the user-created levels in the 100 Mario challenge are a horrible mess, making this mode not fun to play at all. The novelty of Mario Maker wears off very quickly after the 40 hour mark. Nintendo must add things on a regular basis to keep this game relevant until their next big release, or else the Wii U will be all dusty again with no games to play. I expected creativity from the Nintendo community but based on what I've seen, I was horribly wrong.
