The more tranquil moments in Comix Zone show how it would have fared far better if more emphasis was put on the platforming and puzzle sections, instead of the repetitive brawling ones. The ingredients for a great game are present in Comix Zone, but their ratio is messed up.
Pros: Unique idea for a game, great visuals, various cool visual and gameplay details really help to sell the overall idea, some smart and innovative gameplay and narrative ideas, diverging paths
Cons: Beat 'em up mechanics aren't deep/flexible enough to prevent the repetitiveness or to accommodate the punishing/cheap difficulty and no save system, generic music, short length

Editing … I agree, never liked this one as much as most people did.

Editing … It's a smoother experience if you take emulation and GG codes into account (no damage from punching non-hazardous objects, no slowdown, more lives/saves). A bit rough on its own.

Editing … Didn't actually know that it was so revered until today. And yeah Alianger, but then again that should've been in the core game from the start.

Editing … Sure, just saying that it is improvable with little effort nowadays. Same here, but I also didn't know it existed back in '95 (was busy playing SNES).
