After botching the GG version of Sonic 2, Aspect came back with a far better effort. I think this game is basically what I expected Sonic 2 for the GG to be back when I was a kid. It actually feels like the Genesis games for the most part, complete with the spindash and playable Tails that should have been in Sonic 2. And luckily, Aspect finally realized that leaps of faith were a bad thing and that boss acts should have rings in them if you're not going to let the player carry shields over like the GG version of Sonic 1. However, it's still lacking something. The levels feel a bit same-ish and uninspired compared to either the Genesis titles or the first GG one. None of them are really bad, but aside from maybe Mecha Green Hill, none are really memorable. The bosses still don't feel much like Sonic bosses, but they're all better than what was in Aspect's Sonic 2. Lastly, I have to say that the soundtrack isn't as good as the previous GG Sonic games. There are a couple noteworthy tracks, but most of it isn't stuff you'll remember a couple days later. So while it's a good effort for Aspect, and I think it's worth playing, it's still not anything that you're going to consider a must have.
