Halo 2 starts really great, then kind of drags in the middle, and manages to start back up near the end but doesn't get back to it's best. The universe is still interesting and the story is actually split between two protagonists. Arbiter manages to be a fine protagonist, but Master Chief is still a bit generic. All the other characters are, for the most part, good. There is one exception, but she's axed off in the next game. Everything is setting up for the next game to finish. There are even more weapons to utilize and the levels are mostly varied, taking the player through intriguing areas. The multiplayer is some of the best and was the main attraction. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, but I actually find myself liking the first one more.
