After a great introduction, Lufia I is a fairly typical JRPG for the era. You get 4 characters; there are turn-based random battles where each character has a choice of attack, defend, item, magic, and run; and customization is limited to equipment and stat-up items. The individual plot arcs and overall plot are both nothing special, but there are a few neat twists. The characters for the most part feel barely there after you beat their introductory arcs. Graphics are nothing special; they pretend the enemies are animated by wiggling and inverting their sprites a bit, which is still an improvement over most JRPGs up to that point. Soundtrack is pretty good though it definitely feels repetitive at times.
