The original Fire Emblem is not very good anymore, which is unsurprising considering it was one of the first Strategy-RPGs. I found the graphics and music charming for awhile but I got tired of them later on. It's really the gameplay that kills this game, though. There are massive problems with balance and fairness, while the menus and interface are horrible. There's not much story either, so you're not left with much to cling to.

Play Fire Emblem 1 only if you must play every Fire Emblem or you want to see how the series started out. As an alternative, consider playing Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo on SNES or Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on DS instead of this. Both are remakes of this game and are considerably better than it.
