For the fans/aficionados of visual filmmaking, Amirpour's film debut, "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night", is a must see. You do not see this film for its narrative heft or sharp dialogue. However you do see it for its brooding atmosphere and its sharp & stylish use of B&W cinematography. But it doesn't stop there. Amirpour's debut has been tagged as "The first Iranian vampire Western" and rightfully so. It blends a common element of the vampire mythos with the sort of stylish spaghetti western filmmaking you'd see come out of Leone himself - the score alone would make Ennio Morricone proud. But that's not the only genres Amirpour fits into her debut. There is a bit of naive teenage romance & strong dramatic despair to be found as well. Amirpour achieves this mashing of genres with fantastic results. Sure, the characters don't have much to say but Amirpour and her cinematographer do - and with every lingered shot they say something powerful. "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night" is a wonderfully shot, deeply atmospheric experience that is one of the best vampire movies that I've seen since Alfredson's "Let the Right One In"
