The reason why "Imagine" is one of the masterpieces of songwritting can be told in one word: simplicity. You don't need ultra complex or subtle lyrics to win the listener, nor you need the most complicated chord progression or the highest voice range. Sometimes a really simple note after note, basic chord progression, obvious but meaningful lyrics and a very clean and effortless voice is just enough to create a truly remarkable piece of music. In a time where bands started to experiment with complicated song structures and complex lyrical symbolism, John Lennon slaped all of them silly and taught them a thing or two with this beautiful anthem!
