I'm flabbergasted what a total failure this game is, its just riddled with design flaws. I... I just can't comprehend how awful pikmin 3 truly is.

Fuck this game and everyone responsible for its creation.

Editing … I've played games my entire life now, and couldn't even beat level 3 (!) of this game. The entire game is one giant time based mission, so you're constantly on the edge of your seat, trying to rush through it, which completely defies the principles this game is/should be based on: exploration and relaxation. Both control schemes are HORRIBLY unintuitive. You can only throw one pikmin at a time, which is absolutely tedious.

Editing … When I finally did beat the boss on level 3, time ran out and all my pikmin died. Game over? Nope, the game doesn't give a shit and generously makes you play the next level with one (ONE!) pikmin. How fucked up is that? I had 83 pikmin at the start of level 2 and now I'm forced to beat an even harder level with even less pikmin? So I'm punished, because I'm simply not good enough? Shouldn't it be the other way around? How about you make the game slightly easier, when I'm struggling, instead of harder? Ever heard of adaptive difficulty, you dick?

Editing … Having only played the first one...that's exactly how Pikmin is and should be. You have to do things quickly, given the context of the story, and with that concept the player should feel the stress and hurry of the main character. Not only was Pikmin 1 successful at doing that, it was also pretty generous considering you could beat the game in just 9 days of the given 30 :P

Editing … Even when I knew exactly what to do in a mission (cause I basically had to replay it several times in order to stand a chance in the later levels, see above), the time you're given to complete a level is simply too short. Having to heavily rely on a walk-through guide, because Nintendo's employees suck at game design, is not my kind of fun. Pikmin 3 - like may other Nintendo exclusives (eg. New super Mario bros u and donkey Kong country returns, among others) left me feeling anxious, angry, confused and upset. There's a good game buried beneath all of these dumb design decisions, but to get there you have to put up with too much bullshit and that's not what videogames should be about.

Editing … Can't remember exactly what would happen in that situation if it were Pikmin 1, but i'm sure you'd return to the ship with the same number of living Pikmin you had plus the ones stored in the Pikmin pods. And calm down dude, yes i've heard of adaptive difficulty but since I haven't played 3 I can't comment on it. As for the time, again you are supposed to feel the stress of the main character and giving you full space to stop and think, and giving you direction on what to do next and how to do it, would be contradictory to the game's fundamental goal (like Majora's Mask). Again most of what i'm saying rings true for Pikmin 1, but if 3 is anything like it maybe I should try it out someday.

"Use Day 4 as a "Clean Up Day." return to the Garden of Hope and gather the remains of the boss you defeated on Day 3. Take a large contingent of Pikmin and carry the Boss, Fruit, and Cell Phone. "... After the boss fight of level 3, I don't have enough pikmin left to do this!! So I'm shit out of luck. God, this game is bad.

Editing … Well, I agree with Ulty that this series may have been about exploration but not really relaxation, at least that's not a key principle, and imo it never was. Not having played the game, when you're "Having to heavily rely on a walk-through" I'd even argue that you're supposed to explore *even more* than you're currently doing – not in geographical terms but in figuring out what you can do in a level/day, and what you can't. I.e. clear a path to the boss and accumulate more pikmen on one day, so that you can fight him the next day. Having to replay areas several times is not necessarily you being bad at a level. I rather think that this game is designed arouned the idea of reshaping the term "level", moving away from the notion that the area is the level when imo the area-day combination is the level. — I remember, the first time I played Pikmin 1 I just reached the beginning of the last area on day 3o/3o, not enough time to complete the story mode. I don't think that you're even supposed to finish the story mode on your first try. IIRC I didn't play for a few months before returning to Pikmin and starting a new run. So I get your frustration. — Having said that, being thrown into a harder "level" with less pikémon does seem weird to me. So I'm interested in how I will fare with your situation when I'll play the game.

Editing … Pikmin 3 is the only Pikmin game I played. I was sure I would dislike it, because I sucks at real-time strategy games, but I loved it, it wasn't that hard. It's supposed to be stressful, but the only thing you should be stressed about are the juices. If you killed all you pikmins in one day, you didn't play the game correctly. And you know what, Nintendo is so kind that they added the option to go back in time and retry a day. So if you had a very bad day... retry.

Editing … So what you're saying is, the game gave you the finger by "erasing" your save file and forcing you to play it all again from level 1, simply cause you didn't meet some arbitrary time limit? Wow. I mean, if that's your definition of fun, more power to you, but from my point of view Nintendo's game design is still stuck in the 80s. No wonder the Japanese game dev scene became so irrelevant over the last few years. Phil fish was right, Japanese games are designed in an archaic way.

I had one and I'm glad I had one. — The reason why I was saying this to begin with is that you're – not for the first time – making a huuuuge banana-sized fuzz out of nothing. It's not healthy, for your own sake.

Editing … I just beat this last night. Although there is a time limit per day, you don't necessarily have to do things in order, and can prioritize your needs whenever you want as long as you have enough food to keep going. There were a handful of times where I lost most of my Pikmin, so I'd just spend the next day building up the army again, and continued the story from where I left off once I had enough Pikmin. Likewise with food. If I was down to my last container, I'd prioritize food the next day whether the story led me in that direction or not - can't continue the story without food, right? This game seems like it gives you as much time as you need to beat it, and there's enough food in the game to keep you alive for about a hundred days.

Looking at some youtube videos, I also noticed that I did things in wildly different order by doing things much sooner (or later) than a youtuber felt compelled to do them.
