Once I got past the early sections, I was hooked. They made it a point to make this game challenging--you can't brute force your way through much and every boss requires a very specific strategy to defeat it. I'd score this game a lot higher if it weren't for the storytelling flaws. The story isn't complicated, which is fine. However... this game might take about 60 hours to beat (if you don't go for achievements) and yet there are many basic exposition-type questions which the game NEVER answers or explains in all of that time, and expects the player to be fine with that. Bit of a pet peeve of mine. I've seen much more complicated back stories get fleshed out (sometimes ad nauseum) in shorter RPGs. Great character development though, and at several points it's very emotional and moving. The Thousand Years of Dreams episodes (slice of life stories about the Immortals) are especially well written. Absolutely give this game a try if you like classic RPGs.

Editing … I'm not sure I've ever seen someone praise the gameplay and complain about the story in this game. Usually it's the other way around. Maybe when Xbox 360s are about 50 dollars I'll play this and Forza Motorsport.

Editing … Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the story, I just have questions about the back story still and that's ridiculous considering I finished the game. Gonna buy the DLC and go for those achievements though, it's only $1 :U
