I sure don't like everything about it but the japanese culture is so engaging. It's unique and pervert and silly and quirky and weird and high-profile – and it's great! Traditional towns with antique shrines next to anime mechs built in life-sized proportions. Surviving remnants from an age long gone – such as the shamisen, koto, kimono, geisha, sumo, kendo, kyudo, and the like – next to ground-breaking technologies from a futuristic age – as you can see in their automobiles, robots, and interactive media. A mixture of traditional styles and modernism, co-existing in the same time-space-continuum. And they have a wonderful open-mindedness & self-reflected humor when it comes to sex – even the elderly. They simply never cease to be creative, in science just as much as in pop culture. Then there's also a high sense of spiritualism, and of serenity, a strong bond to nature, samurai-ism as a tale of honor, and … oh yeah, also anime & manga. That all resonates with me a lot.
