Though often overshadowed by his brother, Alphonse is half of the soul of Fullmetal Alchemist. Both he and Endward have incredible personalities, feats, abilities, designs, and arcs. What gives Alphonse the upper edge though is his personal struggle to retain his sense of self-worth all while putting himself on the line for others, as if his own existence did not matter. Both struggles are inspiring, but their seemingly contradictory nature is what makes one invested in seeing Alphonse through his story, for better or worse.
