For the most part, it's a sequel done right. Actually the game is pretty amazing if huge battles and character building is what you play SRPGs for, and the production values and enemy AI are noticeably improved this time around, with some actually decent sounding orchestral FM music accompanying the action. Players more interested in story will probably be feeling unsatisfied with the latter half of the game though, as there's plenty of inane and/or poorly translated dialogue to plow through there. But play it in an emulator with fast forward and that's no longer a problem.
