Although I'm not crazy about some of the gameplay (drawing your own maps and level grinding), I have to give credit to this game for being ahead of its time in many aspects. The opening cutscene managed to grab me some 20 years after its release, and while the excitement didn't last, it's more than I could say for other JRPGs of the time.

Ascended: The SMS was not underpowered at its time of release.
