Welp. It's been taken off steam greenlight. I'm actually quite annoyed by this, honestly. The stats the developers have shown show that 7% of people actually voted up for the game on it's page, so why valve have suddenly had a change of heart towards violence is beyond me. I understand that some may find the game to be unacceptable, but if the majority believe they would like to play something of this "level", I don't think that should be taken away whatsoever. I don't understand why the people who don't want to play the game just...Don't. Don't take away something just because a certain number of people find it to be not to their liking. That's called censorship, and we've had enough of that shenanigan for the past few months already. Ironically, however, this is just going to make the game even more popular. Well done, Valve.

Editing … I also want to add that i did indeed vote for the game to go past greenlight as well. Also, i made a mistake, i meant to say 7% of people voted it down :P

Editing … I wouldn't outright vote it down, but I also wouldn't vote it up. I really don't get the fuss about it, either way: To me it just looks like a really bland and ultra simple game that I'd get bored of within 5 minutes, because there seems to be literally nothing to it except to just kill as many people as you can without dying. I mean, it doesn't bother me, I just think I'd get so bored of it so fast, it would be absolutely pointless.

Editing … Yeah, reading more about the situation (and other games they allowed to go through greenlight), I definitely don't agree with their decision to pull it. I just personally don't think I'd enjoy playing it for very long. But censorship is terrible, to be sure.

Editing … Firion, the first Manhunt wouldn't really fit into this category (since it gave pretty good context to all the slaughtering), but the second one (from what I heard) would. :P And Postal series should be a satire, no? Of arguable quality, but still..

Editing … It's honestly scary though that super light contexts like that are what suddenly make killing okay for people though. Assuming the reason they're against it is because the whole killing people causes violence thing (which is of course ridiculous and has been proven wrong) it's more scary to rationalize as okay or justified than to do it just cuz when they know it's bad.

Editing … Aaaand it's back up. Still an absolutely idiotic move on steam's part, since the popularity of this is going to skyrocket as a result. They wanted this pushed to the side, given the "pretend it didn't happen" treatment. Funnily enough, Gaben had to be the one to chime in for the developers, even saying this to them afterwards, "Yesterday I heard that we were taking Hatred down from Greenlight. Since I wasn't up to speed, I asked around internally to find out why we had done that. It turns out that it wasn't a good decision, and we'll be putting Hatred back up. My apologies to you and your team. Steam is about creating tools for content creators and customers." I don't really have to say much more since Gaben is spot on. The customers are indeed a prime factor towards steam even being as big as it is, so to do something of this stature to not only the 97% who voted it to be on the service, but the developers as well, is downright absurd.
