I have a friend of mine who loves Battle Royale (since my circle of friends consists mostly of anime fans of various levels, it was bound to happen) and he reminded everyone that the Hunger Games was a rip-off every time we saw the later. I understand where he comes from, there's a couple similarities, but I once found a eight or nine year old scribbles, of when I was 12 or 13, about a story that I was making called "999 Bloodsheds", the basis was that one thousand people were locked inside a city, each with a random weapon of various levels and a random tattoo of a number (because fuck names) and the doors would open one at a time. The members would have to kill each other until one was left. I even remember I had the idea that it was for the story to start with #1 grabbing his gun and running around the corridor just to be shot and revealed that he wasn't the main character at all and that everyone could die there, I thought I was being smart.

Editing … The point is, this was something I did back in 2001 or 2002, way before I had ever heard of Battle Royale, and way before The Condemned and The Hunger Games even existed. The basic plot is quite simple, I basically came up with the idea just because I wanted to write a gory story where lots of people died (I was a fun kid). The important thing is what you do with it. And Battle Royale does quite a lot in the scenario without exploring much outside of it, which is the main difference between this and Hunger Games, I always thought the highlight of those movies was the backstage of the games and not the games themselves.

Editing … Overall Battle Royale has some flaws, the written shots are annoying and unnecessary, some random flashbacks were too, though there are some, the ones that really explore the backstory of our characters, that work pretty well. And I thought that they tried to make us sympathize with the villain but I'm not going to think a guy that makes kids murder each other on a daily basis is a nice guy just because his mother is sick and he shares his umbrella with people. The strength lie in the characters, since the gore doesn't have much to it either, I had a hard time figuring out when people where shot sometimes, I assumed they had because the next scene they had blood on them. Most of the characters the story centers are interesting, they have their own personality and way of playing the game, as well as some problems that were inherently teenager problems. There's a good amount of crushes in this movie, and I wondered if the movie took place a year later, would we see a completely different group of crushes. One of the guys spends half the movie looking for the girl he likes, just for the audience to realize the basis for him to like her is because she cheered him once during a basketball game and they didn't even talk to each other. In any other situation I would be pissed. But this is teens we're talking about, I totally believe his retardedness, in his words: "You're cute." All in all, Battle Royale misses in the gorefest it could have been, but remains strong where it should, the characters. If you like seeing people die, give this one a try.

Editing … What? What do you mean I can't just recommend things based on if they want to see people die? Can't they be psychos? Geeezzz....

Editing … I remember when I watched this movie. Why? I was at the boarding school, it was the end of the year, I had one exam left to go through. One person had the same situation, so we were the last two persons in the building (excluding the monitor). My room was near the exit door. I was so damn scared, I couldn't sleep after watchin this. The girl... with the scythe... and there was blood. Urgh. No, I'm not a delicate flower *Tries to convince herself*

Editing … Oh I already watched REC! It was good but I was only scared at the end of the movie so I was a bit disapointed. ^^ I put "Grave Encounter" on my wishlist, seems cool! :) "Accepted" seems funny so I added it to my wishlist as well. ^^ And yeah Ara, sorry, I always add some uninteresting details in my stories, can't help it. xD

Editing … Hehe, you'll tell me your impressions on the movie Crash! I'm curious. :p Oh, I never thought of it Ara, it's really common here. I really enjoyed it, it's the time when you become independant, you start to better understand what "respect of the others" means. It brought me so much as a person but I think the fact I had a lot of friends really helped. Plus, my roomate became my best friend and we shared 3 years of really good moments. :) Boarding school was not really a choice since I live on a island and you can only study until the end of junior high, there's no high school, no university there. But it is the best memories of school I ever had. :D
