The growing/shrinking mechanic was gimmicky and near useless aside from the few areas that they specifically designed to force you to shrink, and the level design, while good, isn't as great as any of the classic Mario games. I thought I would love them going back to the basics with Mario, but honestly, it felt a tad stagnant. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game and worth playing, but it's one of the weaker main Mario titles.
