Hm, I'm currently in Fuchsia City and just won my 5th badge. Gamefaqs tells me I need to "fly" to Celadon City next in order to progress, but my bird Pokémon doesn't have that ability. Both Route 18 and Route 7 are blocked because I don't have a bike or a drink for the thirsty guard near Saffron City. Help? How do I teach my Pokémon to fly?

Editing … You should be able to just head west out of Fuchsia through the gate that leads to the bike path. Ride up that (you will be going slowly because it's meant to be downhill) and then go east at the top. Celadon City is right there so you really don't even have to Fly, but I suggest using Cut on the nearby bush between the bike path and Celadon, going through that gate and talking to the girl in the house. Then she can teach your bird Fly. Makes travel way easier.

Editing … Oh, no bike? Sorry, missed that. You can also head east out of Fuchsia and follow that path northeast til you get to Lavender Town. West of Lavender Town is a gate that lets you go underground to get to Celadon City without going through Saffron. The underground path is inside a building just before the gate to Saffron. Still highly recommend going west of Celadon when you get a chance and teaching something Fly (explained how in the comment above)

Editing … No, Diglett's Cave is in Vermillion City. If you go West from Lavender Town, following the path past all of the trainers that you can fight, and you keep going, there's a gate that leads into Saffron. But before that, a little to the north, there's a building you can go into, go down some stairs, come out on the other side, and you'll come out on the other side of Saffron. Keep following that route to the West and you'll be in Celadon. After you access Saffron City a little later, I suggest also getting the Bike Voucher from the Pokemon Fan Club President in Vermillion City (you can just go North from Saffron instead of having to go through Rock Tunnel) so you can get a bike from the Bike Shop in Cerulean (at least, I think it's the same as Red/Blue in Yellow? Not entirely sure). The bike path to the west of Celadon has a lot of trainers that can help your team level up.

Editing … "Keep following that route to the West and you'll be in Celadon". I tried that yesterday, but there's a thirsty guard on Route 7 blocking my way. Apparently he will only let me go through to Celadon City if I give him something to drink.

Editing … Don't go through the gate that goes to Saffron. If you're in Lavender Town, you go West until you start to see that gate that leads to Saffron. But instead of going in there, you go North a little, into a different building. Go down the stairs in that building, follow the path, and you'll come out on the other side of Saffron. Once you're on the other side of Saffron, go to the left and Celadon will be there. Let me know if that still doesn't make sense, and I'll try to draw up a visual aid.
